G3JFS
I lost my antennas during some stormy weather at the end of October and I am currently using a sloping wire thrown up into a tree. It is about 10 metres long and tuned with an SG-230 Smartuner. With this makeshift arrangement I have managed to make a lot of qrp contacts on 7-28MHz, including several with 2-way qrp.  One qso of interest was with Ted, G2HKU (G-qrp #10). Ted is a real old-timer and a dedicated qrp cw operator whom I first worked on 160 metres when I was a newly licenced teenager more than 60 years ago. His call dates from the 1930s when artificial aerial(AA) licences were issued to allow people to build and test transmitters with a dummy load. Call signs were a figure 2 and 3 letters e.g. 2HKU. After WWII these stations were offered a full licence and became G2+3 letters if they passed the morse test.

Another great informative EU challenge.
Thanks to all, Dick

Whew, I thought I was going to miss completing only my second European Chapter challenge ever this month. Of all things, it was the number 6 which is quite common in European calls that held me up. First of all, they were hard to find – period. Then when I did find one, they were S and P, so I couldn’t even try to work them. If I’d find one calling CQ, he was too weak to work. Finally though on the day before our American Thanksgiving I had something to be thankful for when I worked 9A6R to finally complete the challenge. It wasn’t an easy QSO, but Rennie stuck with me till he got my call after about 10 repeats. Thanks again this month for another great challenge. Now on to December.

K1YAN
This one ran down to the wire. I got my last 6 letters in the 15 minutes before the WW DX Contest started. Hope the propagation holds up for next month.
